Russia 2018 World Cup Qualifiers - as they happen

21:17

THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT!
Wow! What a remarkable day of WCQ we've had in Europe, once again. There were straightforward victories for World Cup holders Germany and 1966 winners England, with the latter's neighbours Northern Ireland boosting their play-off hopes with a strong 2-0 win against Norway. There was late intrigue across the continent too. Poland saw Lukas Piszczek score a sublime lobbed winner in the closing stages, but Scotland's late winner was the most dramatic - Chris Martin's goal secured three points with two minutes remaining to keep Gordon Strachan's side in the hunt for progression from Group F.

Join us on Tuesday for the final round of games from March's WCQ, as we bring you action from four continents. For now though, it's goodbye from Europe until June!

GROUP F STANDINGS
The late goal from Scotland sees them right back in the mix for a play-off spot, while England put daylight between them and the chasing pack. Slovakia head the contenders for a second placed finish, but with just two points separating them, Slovenia and Scotland, it is still wide open.

GROUP E STANDINGS
That goal from Lukasz Piszczek has made a huge difference in the group. Instead of Montenegro being three points off top spot, they are now embroiled in a four-way scrap with Denmark, Romania and Armenia. Those back-to-back wins for Armenia look even more important as they now sit a point off a possible play-off spot.

GROUP C STANDINGS
Germany maintained their 100 per cent record with a 4-1 win in Azerbaijan, and Czech Republic's 6-0 victory over San Marino saw them briefly into second place. In the later kick-off, Northern Ireland reclaimed that spot with a hard fought 2-0 victory against Norway in Belfast.

MICHAEL O’NEILL
“It was a fantastic performance. It was a very competitive game. Norway were very direct and we had to deal with that. Gareth [McAuley] got a bad knock and stayed on the pitch and there were a few other bumps and bruises, but I felt we competed fantastically and played some very good football. There's still a lot of football to be played. The only team to score against us are the world champions Germany. We just want to maintain the form that we're in."

FULL-TIME: SCOTLAND 1-0 SLOVENIA
For a long time it had looked like a missed opportunity for Scotland, having spurned some great chances in the first half, but Chris Martin's strike with a minute left on the clock changes the face Group E massively. Assisted by Stuart Alexander, who had a fine debut, they now sit just two points off second spot. Slovenia remain a point ahead of the hosts, but the race for a play-off spot has concertinaed massively.

FULL-TIME Montenegro 1-2 Poland

Poland take command of Group E after a 2-1 victory in Montenegro. After Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the Poles from a first-half free-kick, Stefan Mugosa equalised with a second-half header for the home side. It was left to Lukasz Piszczek to claim Poland's winner in the late stages in Podgorica and put them six points clear at the top of the group.

FULL TIME: ROMANIA 0-0 DENMARK
Both sides had gilt-edged opportunities to take three points, meaning both Christoph Daum and Age Hareide will be disappointed not to come away with a win. Claudiu Keseru shot off target when presented with the ball inside the six yard box in the first half, while Danish substitute Mathias Jorgensen fired over the bar after Christian Eriksen put a simple tap-in on a plate for the No13. The draw suits neither, as both fail to capitalise on Montenegro's defeat to Group E table-toppers Poland.

FULL TIME: NORTHERN IRELAND 2-0 NORWAY
A massive three points for Michael O'Neill's side who cement their spot in second place behind 100% Group C leaders Germany. Jamie Ward got the hosts off to the best possible start, opening the scoring inside two minutes with a superb right-footed effort. After Norway's Alexander Soderlund hit the bar, Conor Washington doubled Northern Ireland's advantage. A comfortable second half followed, meaning the three points stayed in Belfast.

FULL-TIME: Malta 1-3 Slovakia

Jan Kozak's Slovakia make it three wins in a row as they climb into second place in Group F behind England. Vladimir Weiss set the tone early for Slovakia with a sublime strike from 25 yards out. Malta will be proud of their effort and response after conceding the early goal. Jean Paul Farrugia scored Malta's second goal of the campaign so far off a piece of poor defending from Slovakia. Slovakia scored shortly before the break, however, through Jan Gregus and then made sure they would bring three points back home thanks to a late Adam Nemec effort.

GOAL! It's finally come for Scotland. Substitute Chris Martin finds space in the area after a great pass from Stuart Armstrong and Jan Oblak is left flat-footed as the low shot kisses in off the far post.

Time running out for both sides. Should things stay the same, Slovenia will drop below Slovakia while being four points off top spot. Scotland will face the same gap to second and will be really up against it to earn a qualifying place.

OVER THE BAR! Christian Eriksen creates some space for himself on the Danish left before firing a superb cross into the Romanian six yard box. Mathias Jorgensen is there, presented with a simple tap-in, but the substitute fires over the bar. That was as clear-cut a chance as Claudiu Keseru's miss at the same end in the first half.

STAT ATTACK: There have been two meetings between these two sides in WCQ, which came way back in 1989. A 3-0 Denmark win in October of that year was followed by a 3-1 win for Romania a month later. Are we heading for a first WCQ draw between this pair?

Poland restore their advantage with a fine finish by Piszczek. He lobs the onrushing Mladen Bozovic in the Montenegro goal and strikes the inside of the far post before finding the back of the net. Piotr Zielinski's excellent through ball allowed Piszczek to finish with aplomb.
