Qualification history
Hong Kong enjoyed early success on the continental stage, finishing third at the inaugural AFC Asian Cup in 1956. That golden era came to an end with their failing in their first qualifying attempt for the FIFA World Cup™ in 1974. Though having never qualified for the world stage, Hong Kong have proved more than nuisance value on a number of occasions, most notably beating China PR 2-1 to progress to the second round of Mexico 1986 qualifying. In qualifying for Brazil 2014, they conceded eight unanswered goals against Saudi Arabia to see their hopes end.
