Qualification history
Guinea-Bissau have yet to get beyond the preliminary round of FIFA World Cup™ qualifying in Africa since making their debut in the France 1998 preliminaries. In the South Africa 2010 competition they went down to Sierra Leone and lost out to Mali four years earlier. In qualifying for Brazil 2014, the Djurtus almost pulled off a shock in the opening round against Germany 2006 finalists Togo. But after a 1-1 draw in the home leg, they were toppled 1-0 to the Sparrow Hawks led by a newly-returned Emmanuel Adebayor.
