Qualification history
Chad’s attempt to reach Brazil 2014 was only the country’s fourth tilt at FIFA World Cup™ qualifying. Their maiden adventure began with a home defeat by Liberia on the road to Korea/Japan 2002 and, although they followed up with a goalless draw in Monrovia, it spelt the end of their hopes. Their finest achievement came four years later when they saw off Angola 3-1 at home in the first round, but again disappointment beckoned as they lost the return 2-0. After finishing bottom of their second-round section on the road to South Africa 2010, Chad came close to overcoming Tanzania in Brazil 2014 qualifying but bowed out on away goals despite winning the away leg 1-0.
