I guess every athlete is dreaming about the participation in the Olympic Games – the top event in their career. I could not imagine that my dream came true – I took part in the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games. Not as an athlete, but as a volunteer. I still remember the rush around the Games, thousands of volunteer candidates from not only Russia but from the whole world. Application, tests, interviews, long anticipation for the answer… Finally, “Congratulations, you are selected as a volunteer in the Figure Skating team!”
Could I think that the Olympics will change my life? Well, I did not get a new job, did not meet love of my life and even did not ask Simon Ammann (Swiss ski jumper, four-time Olympic champion) for an autograph. However, this month in Sochi gave me so many emotions that changed me dramatically!
After the Olympic Games I have been volunteering on many different events. During European Team Championships in Athletics I was working with the team of France. It was a fascinating experience to learn that even Olympic and world champions are actually nice and easygoing people.
After FINA World Cup I have become a fan of water polo and the team of Serbia. During the event I had a chance to practice several foreign languages. However, the brightest event was the international youth football tournament “Volga goal”. I was an interpreter for one of the best French youth football teams - Olympique de Marseille. It was an amazing feeling when your new friends beat London “Chelsea” in final!
