Application
The volunteer candidates will be able to apply via the internet. The application process will be opened for a two month period from Monday 20 July 2009 to Monday 31 August 2009. Should interested volunteer candidates miss this two month period they would have missed the opportunity and there will not be any extension.
Application Venues
In order to ensure that we make the application forms available to those who do not have access to any form of internet; the nine Host Cities and Umsobomvu Youth Fund Centres will provide access venues. These access venues will be based across the cities where candidates could go and apply. The following information will assist you if you plan to make use of these venues:
- - Access venues will be open during office hours
- - Each access venue will have a member that will assist with completing the application form.
- - The list of the Access Venues will be made available on this page and local media closer to the application date and during the period of application.
Recruitment
Approximately 15 000 volunteers will ultimately be selected for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. All preselected volunteers will go through security screening before they are interviewed. Interviews will take place in the city that the volunteer would have chosen and International Volunteer applicants will be informed when and where they will be interviewed.
The interviews are intended to help the 2010 OC and Host Cities:
- get to know you better
- understand why you have decided to apply
- establish your areas of interest and if you are suitable for the specific tasks
- confirm your stated language ability
Training
The Volunteer training programme is developed to equip the volunteer in understanding the context of the event also to ensure that the volunteer is able to provide great service to officials and spectators. Training will take place prior to the first day of volunteering and all volunteers need to be available for ALL the allocated days of volunteer training.
The training will consist of event training; country knowledge, protocol, customer service, venue and job-specific training. This training will also give volunteers an opportunity to meet and start forming working teams that will assist in delivering the event.
Training will take place in the months of March and April 2010. After the interviews each volunteer will receive a confirmed training schedule which will mostly happen during the week ends in order to accommodate studying and working volunteers.
