Milestones of the Volunteer Programme
• Registration (1 June 2016 - 30 December 2016)
Registration was open to everyone, regardless of his or her gender, ethnic background and physical ability. There was only one requirement: volunteers wishing to work at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup must be at least 18 years old by 10 May 2017, and those wishing to work at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ must be at least 18 years old by 10 May 2018.
• Selection (begins in 3Q 2016)
Potential volunteers undergo the screening process of three steps: analytical skills and personal qualities test, English language test, and an interview. Those who successfully pass the screening process will proceed to the training phase.
• Training (begins 1Q 2017)
The main objective of training, organised at each of the 15 World Cup volunteer centres, is to assist future volunteers in developing necessary skills. As a result, they will learn more about the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2018 FIFA World Cup™ as well as the operations at both tournaments. Participants will also learn about the specifics of the chosen functional area and engage in venue training at the World Cup facilities.
Tournament support The two biggest footballing events will require over 5500 volunteers for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and 15 000 volunteers at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™. They will be assigned to their tasks ahead of time to make sure the venues are ready for the guests: 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup volunteers will begin 10 May 2017; those who will volunteer at the 2018 FIFA World Cup™ will begin 10 May 2018.
