The Turks and Caicos Islands occupy the very lower reaches of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking and have never made a significant impact on the qualifying stages of the FIFA World Cup™, usually tumbling out of the CONCACAF scene in the early rounds. Only playing their first home match in the preliminary rounds for South Africa 2010, the young island cluster was unable to muster much of a charge in the preliminary rounds for Brazil 2014, losing out 10-0 over two legs to Bahamas as their campaign ended at the first hurdle. Without a stable and steady group of players to choose from and a paltry number of friendly games played on the islands, coach Matthew Green was left to cobble a side together for the ill-fated clash with the Bahamians. Disorganised in defence and unable to get much going in the attacking side of the game, the islanders will again need to look to the future for hopes of glory on the world stage.
