Qualification history
Despite the nation’s mountainous terrain, Nepal are not lacking for football passion, with the Himalayan country among Asia's most frequent participants in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™. Despite the regular involvement, Nepal’s record has been relatively modest and they have never progressed to the latter stages since debuting in Mexico 1986 qualifying. Nepal’s campaign for South Africa 2010 saw them bow out in the opening round with a 4-0 aggregate loss against Oman. Despite losing the first leg 9-0 against Jordan in Asia’s qualifying preliminary for Brazil 2014, they limited their rivals to a 1-1 draw in the return to depart with their heads held high.
