Qualification history
Despite their proud achievement of qualifying for the 1972 Olympic Games - in the process sweeping past the likes of Japan and Korea Republic - Malaysia's record in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup™ is modest, having failed in each attempt since their debut in 1974. Their bid for South Africa 2010 ended in early elimination after losing against Bahrain 4-1 on aggregate. They would edge Chinese Taipei on away goals to progress to the second round on the road to Brazil 2014. However, a 6-4 aggregated loss to nemesis Singapore saw their hopes shattered again.
