Qualification history
Guyana had high hopes of success in the South Africa 2010 preliminaries after stringing together some excellent results between 2004 and 2006. Suriname soon put those expectations into focus, however, ending the Guyanese’s world finals bid in abrupt fashion. Their objective as the race to reach Brazil 2014 begins is to make up for that disappointment and build on recent efforts to up their game.

The current crop
Guyana’s current position in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking ensured them a bye through the first round of qualifying matches in the CONCACAF Zone. The Golden Jaguars have played a number of friendlies against their regional rivals lately and are in expectant mood as they wait to hear who they will face on the road to Brazil 2014.

The key players
Nigel Codrington is a vital cog in the Guyana attack, and his strength and the experience he acquired in two previous FIFA World Cup™ qualifying competitions could prove crucial in the challenges to come.
