In another ‘first' for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, an exciting new innovation was unveiled on Tuesday, 27 October 2009 at the City Hall. As part of the ‘Road to 2010' project, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is set to host a spectacular ‘Foosball World Cup Tournament' from 30 October 2009 to 25 November 2009. The preliminary rounds of the tournament will be played throughout Nelson Mandela Bay culminating in the finals taking place at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

The tournament is geared towards uniting and inspiring support as well as excitement for the hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

The Tournament's preliminary rounds will be played in 12 venues with 256 players that will make up 128 pairs per venue. The final day of the tournament will assume the FIFA World Cup format with the draw reflecting the 32 qualifying countries that will participate in the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

To round off the final day's events there will be a prize giving ceremony wherein the eventual winners and other participants will receive prize money as well sporting goodies.

The tournament will kick off on 30 October 2009 at Kabah Langa, Ward 50 in Uitenhage and move on to other venues throughout Nelson Mandela Bay.

"We invite all Foosball enthusiasts, both young and old, to participate in the yester -year fun sporting game of Foosball or table soccer enjoyed and played by both the young and the old, and that's why we felt through this game we should reach both young and old and peoples of all cultures and races", said 2010 Directorate's Marketing, Communications and Events Manager, Putco Mafani.
