The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is getting closer - 99 days to go!
In less than four months – on 14 June, to be precise – the 21st FIFA World Cup™ kicks off at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium as the hosts take on Saudi Arabia.
That leaves us plenty of time to enjoy a countdown. Between now and the start of the World Cup, we will take a closer look at a different statistic from the history of the tournament each day.
99 – Asian teams have contested a total of 99 World Cup matches so far. AFC representatives notched their first win when Korea DPR defeated Italy in 1966, while Korea Republic achieved the continent’s best result by finishing fourth on home soil in 2002. The Taeguk Warriors have competed in 31 World Cup games (5 wins, 17 defeats), more than any other Asian side.
