Fans of Gli Azzurri got the chance to relive their Germany 2006 triumph as Italy welcomed the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola into town.

Two of Italy's victorious boys in blue from that night in Berlin, in the shape of Gianluca Zambrotta and Gennaro Gattuso, were on hand to greet the returning Trophy in Rome. They were also flanked by Antonio Cabrini and Franco Causio, who helped the nation to their third World Cup win at Spain 1982.

“It is great that FIFA and Coca-Cola are taking the FIFA World Cup trophy to the fans. The anticipation in Italy is growing and people are looking forward to the World Cup in Brazil,” said Zambrotta, who was celebrating his 37th birthday as he unveiled the prize in front of gathered football fans. “The trophy reminds me of an unforgettable moment in Berlin and it is great to touch the original trophy again.”

Zambrotta and Gattuso both featured at three World Cups during illustrious careers with La Nazionale, and the latter reflected on what the near-15-inch-tall golden statuette meant to him as an aspiring footballer and fan.

“When I was a child, I admired the FIFA World Cup Trophy. But I could have never imagined that one day I would actually play in the national team, win it and hold it in my hands. That was a fantastic moment 2006 in Berlin.”

The Trophy Tour continues its European leg with Croatia the next stop on its worldwide journey.
