In a meeting on Monday 17 February the government of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the city of Porto Alegre and Sport Club Internacional committed to present a joint solution by Thursday 20 February 2014 in relation to the financing challenges posed by the complementary structures. The announcement is expected to be presented ahead of the official inauguration of the Beira-Rio stadium the same day in the presence of President Dilma Rousseff. The meeting was attended by Deputy Sports Minister Luis Fernandes, FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke, the CEO of the Local Organising Committee Ricardo Trade as well as Vice-Governor Beto Grill, the Mayor of Porto Alegre Jose Fortunati and the President of Internacional Giovani Luigi.
FIFA and the LOC would like to reiterate that this is not a question of Porto Alegre being or not being part of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The stadium is ready to host normal football matches. The challenge is the transformation of the arena to be able to host FIFA World Cup matches. All parties are committed and working hard to find a solution for the issue of the complementary structures.
