Monterrey defender and captain Jose-Maria Basanta is the surprise name in Argentina's 21-man foreign-based squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia later this month.

Basanta, who plays in the Mexican league, was reportedly close to gain the naturalisation to play for the Mexico national team, but Argentina boss Alejandro Sabella attended Monterrey games and decided to include the player in the list.

The Albicelestes host Venezuela on 22 March in Buenos Aires, before they travel to Bolivia on the 26th.

Real Madrid midfielder Angel Di Maria has been included although he will be able to play the second game only, as he is banned for the first one.

Wigan forward Franco Di Santo is among the players in the squad along with Manchester City duo Pablo Zabaleta and Sergio Aguero.
