Defenders Cedric Soares and Andre Almeida have been called up for the first time for Portugal's final two FIFA World Cup™ qualifiers, the Portuguese football federation announced.

Paulo Bento's Portugal play Israel in Lisbon on 11 October and Luxembourg four days later in Coimbra.

Helder Postiga and Fabio Coentrao, who will sit out a suspension during the Israel game, were also named in the 25-man squad which will be captained by star striker Cristiano Ronaldo.

Soares and Almeida will stand in for injured duo Joao Pereira and Miguel Lopes.

Portugal are second in Group F with 17 points, one point behind leaders Russia.
