Poland captain Jakub Blaszczykowski will miss the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ qualifier with England with an ankle injury.

The midfielder, a key player for his country, sustained the knock in Borussia Dortmund's 1-1 draw at Hannover yesterday. He said on his personal website, kubablaszczykowski.pl, that the initial diagnosis has ruled him out for between "four to six weeks".

England play in Warsaw in eight days' time. Blaszczykowski suffered the injury when he caught his ankle in the turf and twisted it. Dortmund said in a statement the problem could be anything from a "ligament strain to a rupture".

The latter could keep the player out for longer than six weeks, the club said, but an accurate diagnosis will only able to be made after an MRI scan.
