FIFA today announced the extension of the FIFA World Cup™ sponsorship agreement with leading solar energy company, Yingli Green Energy. The company, who initially signed up as a sponsor of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa has chosen to build on the success of the relationship with FIFA by committing to the next edition of the event, which is to be held in Brazil in 2014.

The agreement was confirmed today in a signing ceremony in Munich, during the 2011 Intersolar trade fair, attended by FIFA’s Marketing Director Thierry Weil and Mr Liansheng Miao, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Yingli Green Energy.

In January 2010, Yingli became the first ever Chinese company and first ever renewable energy company to sign up as a sponsor of the FIFA World Cup™. In addition to receiving extensive global marketing rights for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, Yingli Green Energy will also be involved with FIFA’s CSR programme as a supporter of the Football for Hope initiative.

“We could not have organized the FIFA World Cup™ on the scale that we saw in 2010 without the support of sponsors such as Yingli Solar” said FIFA’s Marketing Director Thierry Weil, “Yingli Solar’s activities have had a wide-reaching geographical impact, from raising the awareness of the FIFA World Cup™ in their home market China, to providing solar expertise and products in rural parts of Africa as part of the “Football for Hope” program. We view our agreement as a strategic long-term cooperation and I am delighted to welcome Yingli Solar on board as a committed sponsor of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.”

Mr Liansheng Miao reflected on the initial success of the brand’s involvement with FIFA, stating: “After our 2010 FIFA World Cup™ sponsorship, we saw a tremendous increase in our brand awareness and enquiries for our products. We were also very happy to see how our products brought smiles to the children in need by supplying our solar solutions for FIFA’s Football for Hope program. We are excited to once again join hands with FIFA, to build a greener FIFA World Cup™ and a more sustainable future with affordable clean energy provided by the sun.”
