Injured Italian midfield star Andrea Pirlo could be back for Italy's second FIFA World Cup™ game although the third is more likely, coach Marcello Lippi said Sunday. The AC Milan playmaker injured his left calf before the team left for South Africa but was kept in the squad.
He was on the training field Sunday evening, ahead of Monday's clash with Paraguay, but did not join the rest of his teammates, instead jogging round the pitch and doing some light exercise.
"Pirlo is improving his condition, he is respecting the schedule that we set for him when we learned of his problem and agreed to bring him along," said Lippi. "I would be happy if he is ready by the third game, but I think he will try and be ready for the second match. He has come here with great enthusiasm."
Italy's other Group F games are against Slovakia and New Zealand.
