Veteran Dutch defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst has announced that he will retire after the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.

The 35-year-old, who has scored five goals and won 97 caps for the Netherlands, has played for Waalwijk (1993-94), Feyenoord (1994-98, 2007-10), Rangers (1998-2001), Arsenal (2001-3) and Barcelona (2003-7).

He won the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona in 2006 as well as domestic honours in Spain (2005, 2006), England (2002) and Scotland (1998, 1999, 2000).

Van Bronckhorst will join the backroom staff at his current club Feyenoord next season after returning from South Africa and take his first steps to a coaching badge.
