Chile coach Marcelo Bielsa has dropped five players from his provisional FIFA World Cup squad following their 1-0 friendly defeat to Mexico yesterday.

All five players are midfielders with Manuel Iturra (Universidad de Chile), Pedro Morales (Dinamo Zagreb), Jaime Valdes (Atalanta) and Colo Colo duo Charles Aranguiz and Jose Pedro Fuenzalida all deemed surplus to requirement.

Iturra's exclusion comes after he was sent off just two minutes after coming on as a substitute in yesterday's defeat to El Tri in Mexico City. Bielsa has now reduced his squad to 25 players with two more to miss out when the final lists are named on 1 June.

Chile play their opening match of the FIFA World Cup finals against Honduras on 16 June.

* Please note that squad lists only become official after they have been submitted to and announced by FIFA.
