There are 55 associations in the Confederation of African Football but this summer is the first time one of those associations has staged the world's top tournament.

South Africa will be the first African country to stage a FIFA World Cup™ when they kick off the tournament against Mexico in Johannesburg on 11 June. The hosts face a tough test on home ground with previous FIFA World Cup winners' France and Uruguay rounding off their group. This will be Bafana Bafanas third FIFA World Cup appearance.
