Mexico announced a six-match US tour on Thursday that will serve as their tune-up trek ahead of June's global showdown in South Africa.
The Mexicans will prepare for their 14th FIFA World Cup™ appearance with a US tour that begins 24 February in San Francisco against Bolivia, which finished last in the final round of South American qualifying.
El Tri will then face South Africa-bound New Zealand on 3 March at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, and play against Iceland three weeks later on 24 March in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Our goal in the first trimester of 2010 is to prepare the Mexican National Team for the FIFA World Cup.
Mexico and Ecuador will stage the first international sports event at the new Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on 7 May and then face Senegal three days later at Soldier Field in Chicago.
The final match will be played 13 May against an opponent to be named later as the Mexicans complete their preparation for playing host South Africa in the FIFA World Cup 2010 opener on 11 June in Johannesburg.
"Our goal in the first trimester of 2010 is to prepare the Mexican National Team for the FIFA World Cup," said Mexican federation national team programs director Nestor de la Torre. "The US tour allows us to test our squad while giving our fans from all parts of the country the chance to send us off to South Africa."
