Villarreal new boy Nilmar is hoping a successful first season at El Madrigal will help him realise his ambition of representing Brazil at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.

The 25-year-old forward was unveiled by the Spanish side yesterday after they splashed out a club-record fee - believed to be in the region of €11m - to sign him from Internacional.

Nilmar, who has already experienced life in Europe having previously played for Lyon, has said he cannot wait to start his Villarreal career and hopes his switch to La Liga can further boost his international aims.

I know that Villarreal is an important shop window for the Brazil national team, so I hope I can be successful here and play in the next World Cup.

He was part of the Brazil squad that won this summer's FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009, but made just one substitute appearance in a 3-0 win over USA in the group phase.

"I'm very anxious to start and I'm eager to please the directors and the fans," Nilmar said. "I know that Villarreal is an important shop window for the Brazil national team, so I hope I can be successful here and also be able to play in the next World Cup in South Africa."

"Spanish football has always attracted me, it's very similar to Brazilian football, it's very technical and is played with a lot of speed. Now I'm going to fulfil my dream of playing in Spain."
