Adriano has been recalled to the Brazil squad for their upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers against Argentina and Chile.
The 27-year-old striker had not been selected by Brazil coach Dunga since their 3-0 win against Peru in a qualifier at Porto Alegre on 1 April. Following that game Adriano failed to rejoin his then club Inter Milan, to prompt his exit from the Serie A club.
The striker subsequently indicated he had grown weary of his time in Italy and was eventually granted a move back to Brazil where he joined Flamengo. He has impressed since to become one of the Brazilian league's top scorers with ten goals.
Brazil lead the South American qualifying zone by a single point from Chile, who they will host on 9 September, four days after their trip to play derby rivals Argentina in Rosario. Adriano has a good goalscoring record against the Albicelestes having scored against them in Brazil's 2004 Copa America title win and twice in the FIFA Confederations Cup final the following year.
Liverpool midfielder Lucas was also included in the squad to replace the injured Kleberson. Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes will not travel after suffering an injury in Spurs' 5-1 Premier League win against Hull City this week.
