Nemanja Vidic has been ruled out of Serbia's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifier against Faroe Islands on Wednesday with an ankle injury.

Serbia coach Radomir Antic today called up MFK Kosice's Nemanja Matic as cover after learning that the Manchester United star will not play.

Vidic suffered the injury in the first half of the 1-0 win against Austria on 6 June, which enabled Serbia to open up a five-point gap over France at the top of Group 7 of European Zone qualifying.

His loss is a further blow to Antic, who is already without suspended duo Dejan Stankovic and Bosko Jankovic for the trip to Torshavn.
