Thomas Nkono has taken over as interim manager of the Cameroon national side, following the sudden resignation of Otto Pfister.

The former goalkeeper was confirmed in the post "so he can speak on behalf of the team because we are in a crisis situation," a ministry spokesman said.

Nkono will prepare the team for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying fixtures as well as the CAF African Cup of Nations early next year, according to a national radio broadcast.

Nkono played in goal for Cameroon in the 1982 and 1990 FIFA World Cup tournaments and has been in charge of goalkeeper coaching for the squad.

Veteran German coach Pfister resigned as Cameroon coach last week after failing to join the squad for a training camp in Belgium.
