Following the Gabonese ministerial council's decision not to grant permission for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifying match between Gabon and Cameroon to be held on Saturday 20 June 2009, with the encounter due to take place in Libreville the day after the state funeral of the late President Omar Bongo, the Gabonese Football Association put in a request to the offices of the FIFA World Cup Organising Committee to play the match on an alternative date.

A sub-office of the FIFA World Cup Organising Committee decided to grant this request and the match has therefore been postponed until Saturday 5 September, just four days before the two sides meet again in Yaounde.
