Rio Ferdinand will not join up with the England squad ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ qualifier with Andorra on 10 June.

The Manchester United defender also missed 6 June's 4-0 qualifying victory in Kazakhstan as he was still experiencing discomfort from the calf injury that disrupted his preparations for last month's UEFA Champions League final.

Ferdinand had been expected to join up with his England colleagues on 7 June but the Football Association have now confirmed the 30-year-old will not be involved, thus having more time to rest the injury and ensure his fitness for the new season.

England are currently top of Group 6 of European Zone qualifying for South Africa 2010, and are seven points clear of closest rivals Croatia with four matches still to play.
