Chile will play the last two home games of their 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifying campaign against Venezuela and Ecuador at the Estadio Monumental to allow the government to begin modernisation works at the Estadio Nacional.

Chilean president Michelle Bachelet has announced the plan which will turn the old venue, inaugurated in 1938, into a modern ground with a roof.

Work is scheduled to start on 15 August, but the stadium will be re-opened only in March 2010, so Chile's home games against the Vinotinto and the Ecuadorians - in September and October - will be played at the home of domestic giants Colo Colo.
