Iran are to prepare for their next FIFA World Cup™ qualifier with friendly games against Qatar, Kuwait and possibly Morocco.

The games against Qatar, at a venue to be decided, and away to Kuwait will be on 15 and 23 March respectively. Iran's next FIFA World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia will be played in Tehran on 28 March. Their previous match in the group, held in Riyadh, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Korea Republic currently top the FIFA World Cup qualifying Asia Zone Group 2 with eight points, followed by Korea DPR on seven points and Iran with six points. Saudi Arabia are fourth on four points with the United Arab Emirates on one point. All teams have played four matches so far.

An Iranian Football Federation official also told the ISNA news agency that arrangements were being made to play against Morocco on 1 April when Iran has a four-day training camp in Barcelona. Iran drew 1-1 with UAE in November and shared the spoils against Thailand and Korea DPR, leaving Iran's national team coach Ali Daei under pressure.

The top two in each group qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa. The third-place teams in Groups 1 and 2 play-off home and away, with the winner battling Oceania zone victors New Zealand for a place in the finals.
