Mohamed Zidan has once against found himself out in the cold as Egypt coach Hassan Shehata named a 22-man squad for this weekend's decisive FIFA World Cup™ qualifier in Congo DR.
The 26-year-old striker, who recently joined Borussia Dortmund, has been ostracised ever since failing to turn up at a training camp in May.
Shehata also dropped some well-known veterans including Zamalek's goalkeeper Mohamed Abdelmoncef, Al Ahly skipper Shady Mohamed and Ismaily's Omar Gamal, making good on his promise to ring the changes after Egypt lost 4-0 to Sudan in a friendly earlier this month.
There was, however, a first Pharaohs call-up Ahmed Shedeed after he guided his new club, Masry, to a 2-0 victory over former side Al Ahly in the domestic league.
Congo DR currently lead Group 12 from Egypt on goal difference, while Malawi are only three points further back in third.
