Portugal coach Carlos Queiroz recalled in-form midfielder Maniche on Thursday as he named his 23-man squad for next month's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifiers.

Atletico Madrid player Maniche was a shining light in his club side's 4-0 demolition of German outfit Schalke 04 in a UEFA Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

Winning his first cap for the games against Malta (6 September) and Denmark (10 September) is 22-year-old Yannick Djalo of Sporting Lisbon.

There was no room for FC Porto's Ricardo Quaresma, who is lacking match fitness, and injured Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
