The Cape Verde Islands have named a full strength squad for next
Saturday's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa qualifier at home to Cameroon in Praia as they seek to keep alive hope of advancing to the next stage of the African preliminaries.
The islanders, who have won three of their four qualifiers but still
sit behind Cameroon in the Group One standings, are hoping further
points will almost certainly guarantee them progress to the last 20
African contenders, who begin their quest for places at the 2010
finals in South Africa next March.
Coach Joao de Deus has bought back three players who did not feature in wins over Mauritius (twice) and Tanzania in June. They are Pele, who recently moved to promoted English premier league club West Bromwich Albion; Ja, who has just transferred to France from
CAF Champions League holders Etoile Sahel, and the Dutch-born Cecilio Lopes, who last played in the opening group game against Cameroon in Yaounde on 31 May.
Nine of the 22-man squad are based at Portuguese clubs.
