England will be without Michael Carrick for Wednesday's friendly against Czech Republic at Wembley. The Manchester United midfielder injured an ankle in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in their Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford.

"It's an ankle injury - he'll be out for two to three weeks," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson told Sky Sports.

Jermaine Jenas of Tottenham Hotspur replaces Carrick in a squad which features Wigan Athletic striker Emile Heskey, who last played for England in September against Russia and who wins his berth ahead of Portsmouth's Peter Crouch.

Fabio Capello is using the match against the Czechs to fine-tune his preparations for his England side's 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifaction campaign. The Three Lions will begin their journey to reach the tournament against Andorra next month, before taking on Croatia.
