Kuwait registered an impressive 4-2 win over Syria in Kuwait City on Sunday, but remain at the bottom of their FIFA World Cup™ qualifying group.

Ahmad Al Azemi led the way for the hosts with a hat trick, and Syria's Anas Alkhoja added an own goal to make things even tougher for the visitors. Firas Al Khatib's brace made for a respectable 4-2 scoreline, and Kuwait's success was soured by the dismissal of their goalkeeper Nawaf Al Khaldi after 72 minutes.

Syria can take consolation from the knowledge that they remain just one point behind leaders Iran in Group 5 of the Asian qualifying zone. Kuwait are last in the group, but just two points from the top.
