DR Congo have named 20 European-based players in their squad for their opening FIFA World Cup™ qualifier against Egypt in Cairo on 1 June, including the brother of a player possibly heading to UEFA EURO 2008.
Goalkeeper Parfait Mandanda, whose brother Steve is in France's preliminary squad for the upcoming tournament in Austria and Switzerland, plays for Bordeaux's reserve team.
He is part of a side overwhelming drawn from the Congolese Diaspora as new coach Patrice Neveu has turned to European-based players for the vast majority of his squad.
They warmed up with a 4-0 win over the French military team on Monday ahead of their meeting with the African champions.
Neveu has just five players from the Congo in his squad, including Tresor Mputu of TP Mazembe Englebert, the top scorer in African club competition last year.
