Bayern Munich boss Ottmar Hitzfeld has confirmed he will sign up as the next coach of the Swiss team in the next few weeks, according to the German giants' website on Tuesday.

With Kobi Kuhn set to quit his post as Swiss coach after this June's UEFA EURO 2008 tournament, Hitzfeld has confirmed he will be signing a contract with the Swiss imminently.

"I assume that I will sign up with the Swiss team in the next three weeks," Hitzfeld told Bayern Munich's website after the Swiss FA revealed at the weekend a deal was close.

Hitzfeld's move was paved in January when it was announced Jurgen Klinsmann would succeed him as Bayern coach and he met with delegates from the Swiss Football Association (SFA) recently.

Hitzfeld will be no stranger to Swiss football having coached FC Aarau to the Swiss Cup in 1985 and won two championships with Grasshopper Zurich between 1988 to 1991.

He has twice won the UEFA Champions League with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.
