The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) has sacked national team coach Plamen Markov, citing the team's recent poor performance.
"Plamen Markov was dismissed unanimously," BFU president Borislav Mihailov told journalists.
Bulgaria came under pressure following three uneventful draws against Montenegro, Italy and Georgia in qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, and a 6-1 loss to Serbia in a friendly.
The BFU did not immediately announce a successor for the 51-year-old Markov, who took over the Bulgarian side in January.
Mihailov believes they can still qualify for South Africa 2010.
