New Angola coach Mabi de Almeida has wasted no time in marking his own stamp on the squad, less than a week before their vital 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ qualifier against Niger in Luanda.
De Almeida took over on Sunday after the shock resignation of Luis Oliveira Goncalves, and he has recalled midfielder Nelo to the squad for the match. He is one of six players called up from Angolan Girabola leaders Petro Atletico for the African Zone, Group 3 match, which the Palancas Negras must win to maintain their hopes of reaching a second successive FIFA World Cup finals.
De Almeida will have 24 players at his disposal for the game, including returning Manchester United forward Manucho and winger Ze Kalanga, who is based in Romania with Dinamo Bucharest. The former has not played for Angola since the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Ghana 2008 in January and February.
Goalkeepers: Capoco (Recreativo Libolo), Lama (Petro Atletico)
Defenders: Jamuana (Petro Atletico), Jamba (Aviacao), Kali (Sion, Switzerland), Loco (Primeiro Agosto), Machado (Recreativo Libolo), Marco Airosa (Nacional), Yamba Asha (Petro Atletico)
