Palmeiras will double their stadium's capacity to 60,000 seats in response to FIFA guidelines for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. The Paulista giants announced the ambitions plans today.
The Estadio Palestra Italia staged its first match in 1902, and it became the property of Palmeiras in 1920. It is nicknamed the Parque Antárctica.
The 98-million-euro project is set to be finished by 2010. The stadium will be renamed the Arena Palestra Italia.
