First National Bank (FNB), the official bank of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™, has announced a promotion which will make thousands of tickets to matches at the tournament and the FIFA Confederations Cup South Africa 2009 available for fans to win. At a press conference at SAFA House, Johannesburg, Michael Jordaan, the CEO of FNB, disclosed the launch of the FNB 2010 FIFA World Cup Promotion, which will award approximately 500 pairs of tickets every quarter.
He said that this was an opportunity to "bring the game to the people." The staff version of the competition was launched in July 2007 and runs until March 2010. Ettiene Muteba, Key Account Manager of FNB, was one of the first people to win the staff competition. He won the most coveted tickets in world football - two tickets to the Final of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
"I don't know how to describe this feeling," exclaimed Muteba. "It is a great feeling!" He add that he would like to see two African teams in the deciding match, preferably South Africa and Democratic Republic of Congo.
The supporters' edition starts tomorrow and each winner will receive a non-transferable certificate that will be exchanged for the tickets, once they are printed. This competition runs from 1 November 2007 to 30 April 2010, and the first winners will be announced in February 2008.
Danny Jordaan, CEO of the 2010 Local Organising Committee, said that the competition illustrated that "the World Cup reality is here."
