During the first semester of 2012, the Local Organising Committee of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ will be launching its Volunteer Programme and beginning the selection process for an estimated 18,000 people. FIFA.com answers some of the most Frequently Asked Questions relating to the process.

1. What is the Volunteer Programme?
The Volunteer Programme is an opportunity for thousands of Brazilians and non-nationals to take part in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil by volunteering their time or services to the Local Organising Committee.

2. How many volunteers will participate in the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup respectively?
There will be approximately 6,000 people at the FIFA Confederations Cups and 18,000 at Brazil 2014 who will be working in activities directly linked to the hosting of the events or at the stadiums. In addition to those directly involved in event-related activities, there will be other volunteers assisting tourists or providing support to the events’ Host Cities.

3. What are the minimum and maximum ages to be a volunteer?
Volunteers must be at least 18 years old before the start of the event they apply for. There is no upper age limit.

4. How can I become a volunteer?
The launch of the Volunteer Programme will be announced in the press and on the FIFA website. To become a volunteer you must complete the online application form and participate in the selection process, staying up to date with volunteer-related news on FIFA.com.

5. Can I still volunteer if I have a disability?
Yes. The Local Organising Committee is dedicated to making the Volunteer Programme for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and their related events an equal-opportunity process.

6. Where can I get an application form to volunteer?
There will be a link on the FIFA.com site that will take you to the online application form for the Volunteer Programme.

7. I would like to send my CV for consideration. How can I do this?
There is nothing to be gained by sending in CVs. The Volunteer Programme does not consider CVs as the system works strictly on the application form that will be available online.

8. Are there other Volunteer Programmes in existence?
The Volunteer Programme for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 and their related events is unique and the sole responsibility of the Organising Committee. There are no other programmes authorized to recruit volunteers for the above events.

9. How does the selection process work?
The process will consist of distinct phases (some of which can be done online, others that will require the presence of candidates). Applicants must complete all the required stages and be approved in same. These include:
- Online application
- Interviews
- General Training
- Specific Training
- Specific Interviews

10. How can I track the progress of the Volunteer Programme over time?
All information will be published on the FIFA.com site, with information also available on each volunteer’s registration page.

11. What will the Organising Committee do with my personal information?
The Organising Committee will be responsible for your personal information and will treat this as confidential. However, you should be aware that a screening process, including checks for criminal records, will be conducted on all candidates.

12. Can I choose which area I want to work in?
Applicants can specify their preferred areas, but during the selection process, the profile of each individual and their respective skills will be verified and assessed. It is important to understand that each vacancy requires specific knowledge, skills and available time and, for the purpose of offering positions, this information will be matched to available candidates to achieve the best possible results.

13. What will I receive for working at the FIFA World Cup and associated events?
By its nature, voluntary work does not receive financial remuneration, so there will be no salaries or assistance in paying accommodation. However, so volunteers do not incur expenses, those who offer their time, services and commitment to FIFA and the Organising Committee will be provided with uniforms, assistance with the costs of travelling to their place of work (from within the Host City) as well as meals for the periods in which they are working.

14. How long does a shift last while volunteering?
A voluntary work shift lasts ten hours.

15. For how long do I need to be available in order to volunteer for an event?
You must be available for at least 20 consecutive days to volunteer for an event.

16. Are there different categories of volunteers?
There are certain functions that have very particular requirements and, as such, these necessitate specific skills and knowledge. Because of this the Programme will have two categories: Specialist and General staff.
Specialists will attend to areas such as the media, language services and the medical department.
General volunteers will attend to all other work areas and will be focusing on dealing with the public in general.

17. I don’t live in any of the FIFA World Cup Host Cities. Can I still volunteer?
You can apply online no matter where you live. However, you should know that you will have to be available to work for a set period in the city you choose or are allocated, and the Organising Committee will not be providing any type of assistance with the costs of staying in said location.

18. How can I contact the Volunteer Programme?
By e-mailing voluntarios@brasil2014.com.br

19. Will volunteers be able to attend the games?
No seats will be allocated to volunteers. Some volunteers may be working in the stands on matchdays or in areas with a view of games, but it is important to understand that you will be working and will not have time to attend as a spectator. However, there will be Volunteer Centres where the matches will be screened, and volunteers can access these for the duration of their breaks.

20. Is it obligatory to speak good English to join the Volunteer Programme?
Not all the positions require foreign-languages skills. However, for certain functions this will be part of the selection criteria.

21. How can I apply if I live outside Brazil?
Complete the online application as normal on FIFA.com. Before the selection process begins, specific information will be given on how overseas applicants (both Brazilians and non-nationals) will be contacted.

22. How soon can I apply to be a volunteer?
The precise date when applications open has not yet been finalised, but it will be during the first semester of 2012. Check FIFA.com on a regular basis for updates.
