Eliminated in the first round by Nigeria on the road to Korea/Japan 2002 and then by Sudan in 2005, Eritrea will not have the opportunity to improve on their performances this year.

The country, ranked 133rd in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking have decided to withdraw from the Preliminary Competition for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™.

Drawn in Group 11 with Togo, Zambia and Swaziland, the east African nation will not be replaced - and all their matches have been struck from the record.

The affected matches
Togo: 13 and 20 June 2008
Zambia: 6 June and 10 October 2008
Swaziland: 30 May and 5 September 2008
