Group dynamics get the ball rolling

With the registration period for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ Volunteer Programme now over, thousands of applicants are now preparing for the start this weekend of the group-dynamics phase, stage one of the process that will determine which of them are selected to take part in the biggest football show on Earth.

Candidates are invited to log on at the volunteers’ page (https://ems.fifa.com/Volunteer/Brazil/Login/) and indicate the dates and times of the session they wish to take part in. This is a screening phase and applicants are reminded that they will be assessed on their behaviour, attitude and ability.

The group-dynamics sessions begin this coming Saturday in ten of the Host Cities (Belo Horizonte, Cuiaba, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Salvador and Sao Paulo), with Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro following suit on Sunday. Applicants are reminded that schedules are given in local time for each city and that this weekend marks the official start of summer time in some Brazilian states.

In taking part in this first phase, residents in the states hosting the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil must travel to the Host City in their respective states. Residents in other Brazilian states and overseas applicants will be interviewed on Skype and will not be required to take part in the group dynamic sessions. Interview times will be made available shortly.

Candidates who participated in the volunteer selection process for the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 must take part in the FIFA World Cup selection process, regardless of whether they were chosen for the Confederation Cup or not. Selection for the Festival of Champions does not entitle applicants to work as volunteers at the World Cup.

The group-dynamics phase will run until 15 December, with sessions taking place on weekends only. Sessions will not be held, however, on the weekends of 26-27 October (national high school examination weekend) or 16-17 November (due to the bank holiday on 15 November).

Applicants are reminded that in choosing the session they wish to attend, they should allow at least two hours for it. They will also be required to take official document bearing a photograph to the session in order to identify themselves. Applicants wishing to reschedule a session must apply to do so no later than 49 hours before the event. Should they fail to do so, they will be marked as absent from the session.

The sooner applicants get online to book their session, the more likely they are to find a time and a date that suits them. Candidates passing this phase will be notified before it comes to an end in mid-December, which will give them more time to complete general online training, the next stage in the selection process.

Good luck everyone!
