  • Argentina currently sit outside the automatic qualification spots for Russia 2018

Edgardo Bauza’s reign as Argentina coach has ended after just eight months at the helm, with the Argentinian FA making the announcement on Monday.

Argentina are struggling in South American qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ with just six wins from 14 matches.

The two-time world champions currently sit in fifth with only the top four teams to qualify automatically for Russia 2018, while the fifth-placed nation will play-off against an Oceania opponent.

With four matches remaining Argentina are two points ahead of Ecuador, and four points clear of Peru and Paraguay. Their next match is against third-placed Uruguay in Montevideo.

Bauza, a two-time Copa Libertadores winner, assumed control last August after Gerado Martino departed in the wake of defeat in the final of last year’s Copa America Centenario.
