2014 FIFA World Cup™
American artist Elijah King is announced winner of the SuperSong competition
10 Feb 2014
Talented American artist Elijah King has today been unveiled as the winner of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ SuperSong competition. Following the recent announcement that Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte will record the Official Song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, Elijah’strack ‘Vida’ is the second song confirmed to be included on the Official Album – and will be performed by global superstar Ricky Martin.
The world-wide music contest was launched in conjunction with FIFA Partner Sony in December 2013 and invited aspiring musicians and football fans to submit videos of original song proposals. Today’s news continues to support the integral impact music has on the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ and culture of host nation Brazil.
“I would like to personally congratulate Elijah King along with his fellow finalists in this exciting competition,” said FIFA’s Marketing Director Thierry Weil. “Each artist produced a track that was unique to their individual talents but expressed a strong passion for football. By developing this competition, Sony is giving aspiring songwriters and artists a once in a lifetime opportunity while adding new sounds to the rhythm of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.”
The winning song was selected by Ricky Martin and the SuperSong judging panel following five singles having been shortlisted at the end of January. You can hear all five of the shortlisted songs on FIFATV’s YouTube channel.
Elijah will now travel to Miami to work with Ricky Martin and a top music producer on the final version of the song ‘Vida’ for inclusion on the Official Album of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, to be released by Sony Music Entertainment later this year. Elijah and a guest will also travel to Brazil where he will be Sony’s VIP guest at the final match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup along with receiving additional Sony prizes.
