60 days to go: Gli Azzurri's super sixty

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is getting closer – 60 days to go!

In two months' time – on 14 June, to be precise – the 21st FIFA World Cup™ kicks off at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, as the hosts take on Saudi Arabia.

That leaves us plenty of time to enjoy a countdown. Between now and the start of the World Cup, we will take a closer look at a different statistic from the history of the tournament each day.

60 - the number of players who have scored for Italy in the history of the FIFA World Cup™. Angelo Schiavio scored the nation’s first world finals goal in 1934 and Mario Balotelli the last to date, against England at Brazil 2014.

The most prolific Italian marksmen on the big stage are Paolo Rossi, Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri, who each scored nine goals in their World Cup careers.

The four-time world champions missed out on a place at Russia 2018 after losing to Sweden in the European play-offs, the first time that Gli Azzurri will sit out the world finals since Sweden 1958.
