Quotes

"Colombia have had a great World Cup and have played some really good football. Today we really went for it, though, and played the kind of football everyone likes watching, with a lot of intensity and going for goal the whole time," David Luiz, Brazil centre-half.

The final whistle sounds.

FULL TIME: It's finished in Fortaleza and the hosts are through to a mouthwatering semi-final clash with Germany on Tuesday. Thiago Silva opened the scoring in the opening ten minutes before a thunderous David Luiz free-kick doubled his side's advantage. James Rodriguez's sixth of the tournament, a penalty after Julio Cesar had fouled Bacca, halved the deficit but Brazil held on to progress. There will be concern around the host nation as Thiago Silva was booked and will miss the semi-final, while Neymar went off on a stretcher around five minutes from time. The country will put those worries on hold for tonight though, as the nation celebrates their semi-final berth.

Match Facts

Fortaleza

Although it was officially founded as a village in 1726, and would only become the capital of Ceará in 1799, Fortaleza (Portuguese for ‘fortress') owes its name to the period between 1637 to 1654, when it was controlled by the Dutch, who built the Schoonenborch Fort.
